    Project Lead

    Project Leads need a variety of skills to plan, procure, and execute a project, making sure that everything is on track and that all team members are working to their full potential. If there are any issues, delays, or problems, the project lead is the point person to work with the client or company to review those issues’ resolution. The Project Lead achieves high performance and quality standards for his or her team by managing client and company projects to a high degree of execution. 

    The Project Lead reports to the Project Management Director; he or she oversees the following duties as designated by functional area. 

    Responsibilities:

    Planning
    • Perform strategic and informed planning by coordinating with Solutions Manager to cover performance measurements, baseline management, and possible variances
    • Preparation and presentation of kick-off meeting with client 
    • Coordinates with client and Business Analyst to analyze  and outline project requirements
    • Defines, manages and measures key milestones, approaches, risk analysis, and other components as dictated by project size and nature 
    Execution
    • Oversees project execution, managing team member duties and reporting to the Solutions Manager as needed on tasks performed during the execution phase
    • Manages team process developments
    • Manages resource and time
    • Manages procurement (if needed)
    • Sets up tracking systems
    • Assigns tasks
    • Coordinate status meetings
    • Updates project schedules
    • Modifies project plans as needed
    • Monitors Key Performance Indicators during execution phase
    • Measures if a project is on schedule, where budget is an indication if the project will meet client or company objectives
    • Ensures deliverables have high quality standards
    • Tracks effort and cost
    • Monitors resource effort and cost to see if the budget is on track 
    • Monitors changes in the project, taking into consideration the amount and types of issues that arise and how quickly they are addressed, e.g. unforeseen circumstances and scope changes 

    Project Closure

    • Creates closing documents for work phases, including final budget and final report

    Requirements

    • Proven working experience in IT project management
    • Excellent client-facing and internal communication skills
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills (English)
    • Solid organizational skills, including attention to detail and multitasking 
    • Strong understanding of formal project management methodologies
    • Project Management Professional (PMP) / SCRUM certification is a plus

    Skills & Proficiencies

    • Business Communications: Use the right language, tone, and storytelling techniques when communicating, describing, or explaining issues over email, chat, reports, presentations, and other forms and channels of communication. Generate the right impact or response from specific audiences (team members, managers, clients, other stakeholders). Verbal and written communication skills are keys to success.
    • Leadership: You will have to keep your team motivated, resolve conflicts, and make hard decisions for your team members.
    • Accountability:  Embrace ownership and accountability for the project.
    • Time Management: You will be working with employees, customers, and management, often spinning multiple plates at once.
    • Math and Budgeting: Project leads are expected to keep and maintain a budget in almost every field. You will need to be confident in using math skills to make sure you know where your company's money is going.
    • Analytical Skills: You will need analytical skills to be able to solve problems that may come up during a typical work day. On a regular basis, you will be analyzing data and making decisions that affect the project.
    • Risk Management: Being able to anticipate and control risk (as far as you can) is a sign that you are on top of your project. Project stakeholders hate surprises, and good risk management is one way that you can control potential issues.
    • Critical Thinking: Critical thinking is simply being as objective as you can in analyzing and evaluating an issue or situation, so that you can form an unbiased judgement. You have to weigh the pros and cons of solutions to problems, before choosing the right way forward. 
    • Adaptability/Proactivity: Workplaces, workflows, and project development practices rapidly change over time. Hence, project leads should possess the required agility to nimbly adapt to different situations and make proactive adjustments when necessary.
    • Open-mindedness/Trainability: Because continuous learning and self-improvement are integral to project management, project leads should be open to new technologies, industries, clients, approaches, and experiences.
